Sail Into the Blue Mermaid Chowder House & Bar

The Blue Mermaid Chowder House & Bar is where the ocean's lore and San Francisco's wharf history come together in a deliciously vibrant fashion. Housed in the historic Haslett Warehouse along with the Argonaut Hotel on Fisherman's Wharf, the Blue Mermaid is named after the exquisitely beautiful creature that is said to call the waters of the Bay her home. Whether our namesake is fact or fiction, one legend that is undeniable is our food, in particular our chowders.

Complementing this decadent lineup of chowders (six in all) are breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner menus the entire family will enjoy. There's even a kids' menu geared specially to the little wayfarer's tastes. All of our dishes are prepared in an environmentally gentle way, including following the Monterey Bay's sustainable fisheries guidelines. Our "fresh, local and sustainable" practices are part of Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants' commitment to safeguarding the environment.

In the bar, you'll find some of the Blue Mermaid's finest creations. The Mary Mermaid (our nautical interpretation of a Bloody), the Captain's Quest and the Dark and Stormy can definitely aid you in your quest to find a real mermaid. Our wines hail from California, Washington, Italy and Argentina, while our beers spring from major and micro breweries throughout the U.S., as well as select imports. The handcrafted seasonal cocktails are made with produce straight from the Bay Area's farms and gardens.

If the Siren's Song doesn't draw you in, our menus and setting certainly will, from the renditions of old cannery labels adorning the walls, to the bronze mermaid figureheads, to the two 19th century fishing boats hanging overhead, to the casual outdoor patio. We look forward to seeing you.

For three years running, Blue Mermaid's chowder recipes have won top honors at the Schweppes Great Chowder Festival in Newport Beach, Rhode Island. In fact, Blue Mermaid was the only restaurant on the West Coast to win in 2009. The first place trophy, in the Creative category for our succulent Dungeness Crab and Corn Chowder, earned Blue Mermaid a spot in the Chowder Hall of Fame.
